Health and Wholeness Meditatio seminar - Australian talks

Peter Smith

Professor Peter Smith is a medical oncologist who spent 35 years treating young people with leukaemia and cancer. He has been Dean of the medical schools at University of Auckland and University of New South Wales. He has had a meditation practice for many years and currently introduces medical students at the University of Notre Dame Australia to mantra-based meditation and the concept of contemplative medicine.

In August 2018 he suffered serious injury when hit by a car when on a pedestrian crossing. Over the last three years he has undergone an intensive program of reconstructive surgery, mental and physical rehabilitation. He will discuss how contemplative practice helps in coping with the trauma, suffering and disappointment associated with such an experience and at the same time how the experience can open an awakening to a deeper understanding of contemplative practice.

Janet O’Sullivan

Janet trained as an economist more than 60 years ago in Adelaide...when females were not yet really regarded as part of that profession. Future experiences in less developed countries led to a new way of seeing and a portfolio of education roles...with focus on economic reform, community development, Asian studies and sustainability.

Janet learnt various forms of meditation before discovering Christian meditation 25 years ago -and with it a rediscovery and deepening of her Christian roots. In that time Janet has been active in various roles in WCCM Australia and NS.W and for the last 5 years has has been the Environment representative on the WCCM Meditatio Outreach Council.
